A typical reflexology treatment
with Julie Tatman

Your foot contains 26 small bones, 114 ligaments, 20 muscles and numerous blood vessels and nerves. It is a marvellous piece of engineering which is commonly ignored and abused in modern life.

Reflexology is a form of massage given through the feet. Every part of the foot is covered using thumb and finger pressure over reflex points which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. This is a therapy that works with the body's natural energy. We have no name for this in western terms, but it is known as 'prana' in India, 'chi' in China, and 'ki' in Japan. It is also recognised in many other parts of the world. The whole body is treated within a session with the aim of balancing and harmonising the body's natural equilibrium, so helping the body to restore and repair.

Reflexology can be used with many people from children to the elderly and can have benefits ranging from restoring and invigorating poor energy to the relief of migraines or IBS symptoms. Remember, everyone is an individual and will repond differently to this treatment. The only way to find out if it can help you is to try it. Reflexology in itself cannot be used for diagnosis of a medical condition, but can be a link in a chain to help you find and treat the disease or imbalance within your body as a complimentary therapy.
