Psychology
Clinical Psychology is a broad profession that aims to help people with a variety of emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. All Clinical psychologists will have completed a first degree in psychology followed by a post-graduate qualification specialising in a wide range of clinical areas.
In the field of adult mental health clinical psychologists have expertise in both delivering psychological/talking therapies and consultation and advice. There is a growing body of research evidence showing that talking therapies are effective treatments for many mental health problems and often feature in the NICE guidance for effective treatment.
Simply put many people facing difficulties in their lives find that having a chance to talk things through is beneficial. Often it is sufficient to talk to friends and family however there are times when this doesn’t help or isn’t possible. If the difficulties have lead to someone feeling significantly depressed or anxious for a prolonged period of time being able to talk to a professional person who understands the issues involved can be invaluable.
