Acupuncture

This is an holistic approach to treatment developed over 2000 years ago but recently supported by modern research in the Western world. The traditional Chinese philosophy is that our health is dependent on the body’s energy (qi) moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians. This flow of qi can be disturbed by many factors and by inserting fine needles into these meridians can stimulate the body’s own healing response and help restore its natural balance. Western medicine has investigated the effect of needling and shown altered responses in the brain. This has been shown to be particularly useful as pain relief in both acute and chronic conditions.
Different techniques can be used including needles, cupping and moxibustion (burning dried herbs). Some of the conditions that can be treated are:
- Muscular skeletal problems
- Facial neuralgia and palsy
- Frozen shoulder
- Tennis elbow
- Pregnancy related joint problems
- Low back pain
- Osteoarthritis
